FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — Before sunrise, a line wrapped around the new Randy’s Donuts location on Shaw Avenue as Fresno’s donut lovers waited to get their hands on some iconic donuts.
“I lived in L.A. for ten years. I lived near that Inglewood location with that big giant donut, and we have a lot of memories with my friends and family. We would eat before work, after work, and just share stories with donuts and a cup of coffee,” said Christopher Reyes, a customer who jumped in line at 2 a.m.
Some customers who waited in line are big fans of Randy’s Donuts in Inglewood, which opened in 1952, but some are trying them out for the first time, hoping the wait is worth it.
“I don’t know, I’m hoping for something delicious,” said Monica Haydostian. “I’m actually not about carbs and sugar, so this is like a special treat for me, so expectations are high.”
Live music by the Fresno DJ Company and fireworks welcomed customers as they entered the store. Free limited edition t-shirts and stickers were given to the first 100 customers along with their most popular raised glazed donut.
”They’re just amazing donuts, and we want everybody to enjoy it and have a good time at our opening,” said Brian Gonzales, who is one of the owners. “Also, try our drinks and try our coffee drinks, lemonades, milkshakes, teas, and boba drinks. We have a lot of good things that are here for everyone to try out for the first time from Randy’s Donuts.”
Franchise owners and Head Baker Raul Avila shared their excitement about bringing this legend to the Central Valley and expressed their eagerness to become part of Fresno’s community.
“We are the proud sponsor of Fresno State Athletics. We’re the official donut of Fresno State Bulldogs,” said Avila. “We also have a partnership with the Poverello House, and we’re eventually going to be donating any leftover donuts to them.”
More Randy’s Donuts locations are expected soon, including one in Clovis. For now you can stop by 2369 E. Shaw Avenue anytime from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
